March & April favorites

Hey there! Here I am catching up with my monthly list of things I loved. I intentionally skipped February because it was a bit short on faves, I was feeling sick during the beginning of the year and hardly had time to go out and smell the flowers. March and April have been much sweeter, and with no further ado, I will let you know why ;)


I´m pregnant! Le french hubs & I were working on this (a baby) for a while, so we’re over-excited about our #petitpainauchocolat in the oven. First trimester kept me mostly overly tired and super sleepy (hence the lack of posting over here) but now that I´m the 6th month of gestation, energy levels (and motivation) are back.

After following each others’ Instagram accounts, Body care line Concept Provence sent a lovely package around Valentines’, but I just started using them in April. I love and admire brands that have a soul, and CP has lots of that, created by Renata and Jean Paul Negroni (how cool is to share your family name with a grand cocktail? ;) ). The main values of the brand are the use of certified natural products, putting our region´s Savon de Marseille in the spotlight #highfivetothat. All  scents are developed in Grasse (South of Provence, as well),  everything is guaranteed free of synthetic preservatives (Parabens, EDTA, BHT, PEG) and never tested in animals :). My two current favorites from the loot they offered to me are: (not surprisingly) the Liquid Marseille Soap (scented with Lavender) which I use as a very fancy and efficient handwash (also to rinse my beauty brushes); and the Body scrub scented with a subtle aroma of grapevine flower. #madeinProvence #madeinFrance

Even with a bun in the oven but during March and April we partied out with our friends AnaisetPedro at their mythical soirées Mamadredi at MamaShelther Marseille. For April, the theme was La Mama de Mexico and I contributed sharing my two fave TexMex recipes: Nachos, and Chili con Carne which the cuisine staff commanded by Nicolas Brenier replicated so well. AnaisetPedro created a crazy French-Mex mayhem with lots of help of Cerveza Sol and Altos Tequila ;). #VivaMexico #HechoenMexico

Speaking of MamaShelter Marseille, member of the collection of boutique hotels with the same name and designed by Phillip Starck, we stayed twice at this hip hotel and our #coupdecoeur was the Breakfast, which consists of a short but well stocked buffet with all the usual components: yogurt, fruits, house-made breads and viennoiseries (the pain au chocolat is just amazing), scrambled eggs, DIY eggs cocotte, cold meats, sausages and bacon. On the beverages line: fresh Americano coffee (yeah!), chocolat au lait, teas from Palais des Thés, fresh oj juice, and fruits to make your own smoothie. Price is around 17 Euros, making it a very accessible and substantial breakie in the Phocean city. We heard their Brunch is legendary, both for food and ambiance, and Mama Shelter´s new Chef Consultant is Michelin-starred Chef Guy Savoy, so they just launched the new menu.

One of our closest friends, Audrey, turned 30th this month, and her hubby organized a surprise bbq party at  the annexe of  Château Valmousse, where they live. Whenever we get the chance to visit them we cannot stop to surprise us for all the beauty that surrounds them. We usually wander around the (huge) property, and if weather allows it we eat in the garden or the greenhouse (where I dream I am inside an episode of Downtown Abbey). I have never visited les chambres (the Château, is also a chambre d’hôtes) but I guess it must be a nice place where to stay if you´re visiting Aix-en-Provence’s region.

I have to admit my eating habits have changed a lot since we find out I was pregnant. Apart the usual caution of listeria contamination, I am not toxoplasmosis immune, donc, good-bye raw meats, seafood, artisanal cheeses, raw  fruits and veggies (when not eating at home) and other lovely things I tend to eat and that motivate me to create new recipes for you.
